Traffic lights on the junction 8 exit have an unnecessary time delay between Red changes

Reported via mobile in the Traffic lights category anonymously at 10:16, Sunday 4 October 2020

Sent to Highways England less than a minute later

The traffic lights for both directions on the exit at Junction 8 seem to have been adjusted over the last week - now when you approach and you can see your lights are red, you can see that the other lights are also staying red for quite a while. They previously worked perfectly - i.e. when one set turned red, within a few seconds the others went green. The sequencing has definitely been adjusted, unnecessarily.

Updates

  • Traffic light sensors are not working - lights are green each direction for a fixed time, then both sides hold Red during the change for 20 seconds. This is causing queues back to the M1 during peak periods — PLEASE FIX!!!!!

  • Received an email from Highways Agency on 15th October stating this issue should be fixed by Tuesday 20th October - still isn’t fixed and causing way too many unnecessary delays.

    PLEASE FIX IT HIGHWAYS AGENCY!!!

  • FAULT: As you leave the either the North or Southbound OFF slip road at junction 8 of the M1 at Hemel Hempstead and travel towards Breakspear Way / Green Lane Roundabout. There are two sets of traffic signals that control the exit of traffic from the North and Southbound carriageways. The timing of these lights are incorrect and can both display a RED LIGHT at the same time for a period of approximately 10 seconds thus holding up the flow of traffic. On the evening of the 09-11-20 at around 18.40 hours, traffic trying to exit this junction from the northbound slip road was backed up to nearly junction 6, the M25 slip road. This fault needs to be addressed as a matter of urgency.
