Blocked Drain

Reported via desktop in the Flooding/drainage category anonymously at 11:46, Wed 7 October 2020

Sent to Highways England less than a minute later

The road drain which you have now attempted to unblock at least 3 times in our tenure here, has blocked again leading to our front porch flooding twice last weekend, making the pub inaccessible for customers! We lift the foul manhole cover on our property which alleviates the problem-but obviously is dangerous having an uncovered manhole while it rains! This has been an ongoing situation, the last time your guys were here they managed to clear the drain 75% of the way to the river, but said it needed a CCTV survey to find why it didn’t go all the way to the river, which to my knowledge still hasn’t happened? One of the major causes is over hanging trees opposite the drain, when the lorries with straw bales go past huge clouds of straw end up on the road and in the drain, as I explained to your 2 guys who came and told me it was they who were responsible for this stretch of the A36, they also questioned why we had a large area of dropped kerb stones, did we need dropped kerbs, which we replied no, as they start just past the drain so when it’s full, the water simply flows straight onto our property, but again nothing has been done about this. This constant flooding is now causing greater issues to the fabric of the pub itself as, especially when HGV’s go past they blast the building with a 2metre wall of water, our UPVC windows are now taking in water and we have significant damp patches on our inside wall at windowsill height and higher! Please can you send someone out to see us and discuss these issues, our business has been significantly affected by the ongoing covid19 pandemic, we cannot go another winter with these issues as well. You asked us to directly contact you going forward, rather than using our local councillor, but if we don’t see someone soon we will be forced to contact John Glen our MP for his help. Many thanks. Kind regards David Hydon FBII
