I wish to report a near accident that happed to me last Sunday, 1st November 2020 at the Hilton Park North motorway station, in order to prevent other accidents happening there. Because of the covid situation I wished to eat my sandwich lunch outdoors, using your decking area. Despite taking note of your warning sign, I slipped backwards from head to foot on the floor and violently hurt the back of my head. I was stunted for a few seconds, then recovered but remained on the floor until I could manage to get up again. A passer-by asked me whether I was alright but I declined her help. I did not eat much of my lunch, fearing I might vomit. Fortunately I was not the driver for the onward journey on this occasion; my daughter was. I could not have driven a car. It took me a couple of hours to recover my calm. I told my daughter to take me to hospital if I fainted or vomited as these would be signs of severe concussion. My daughter asked me to sleep at her house that night so that she could watch over me. In fact I was fine and now I feel fine after a week has passed. I am writing to you to warn you that a much more severe accident could take place on the decking. It is not sufficient to have a warning sign. The floor needs treating for algae or needs replacing with another material altogether. It is not fit for purpose. It is a good idea to keep the decking open during the pandemic to allow for safe distancing and for travellers to stay in the open air, but the floor seriously needs attention now.

Motorway Service Areas (MSAs) and other roadside facilities perform an important road safety function by providing road users with the opportunity to stop and take a break in the course of their journey. Government advice is that motorists should take a break of at least 15 minutes every two hours. Roadside facilities also provide access to other services which can contribute to the overall customer experience.
I am sorry to hear that you slipped on the decking area at Hilton Park Services. All roadside facilities are privately owned and operated, with all operational matters, including on-site parking and fines, pricing and staffing matters, being the responsibility of the operators.
