A483 In the village of Pant in Shropshire, there are sections where the village street lights are not working. The road is busy and dangerous even when lit.
Thank you for contacting Highways England about faulty street lighting on the A483 in Pant.
I appreciate why the lighting in this area is a concern to you. These lights were isolated for safety reasons after they failed their electricity inspection.
Since identifying this issue, we’ve attempted to complete some temporary repairs, however unfortunately a full repair will require the replacement of the underground cables. We understand the importance of the lighting in Pant, both for road users and pedestrians, and have been working to prioritise the planning and funding of a scheme to replace this cabling. Although we have not yet secured this funding, we are hoping to arrange this within the current financial year. This lighting will be the first scheme to receive funding when they are made available. In the meantime, a smaller repair scheme is being approved to keep the A483 through the village sufficiently lit throughout late autumn and winter.
We’ve identified several key areas where lighting is a priority, including pedestrian crossings, junctions, bus stops and the village shop and pub. Our intention is to ensure that localised repairs are completed in these key locations until the full repair can go ahead.
Kind regards Highways England
