Thank you for your patience whilst we investigated your report of standing water on the A56. The A56 and the M66 is susceptible to a lot of overland surface water from the fields to the east of the motorway, which flows down the slopes towards the motorway. Although there is drainage in place to try and intercept this water, a lot of the drainage dates back to the construction of the motorway and are in need of repair or replacement. We have been carrying out a number of investigations along the A56/M66 and there are schemes programmed to address these drainage issues, one of which is in the location of your report. This scheme is programmed to be undertaken this year and should address the surface water issues along this section of road.
Kind regards, Highways England Should you have any questions on this issue, please contact us at email@example.com or telephone 0300 123 5000, quoting ref: 21819113
