Since November 2020 the light columns on approach to cucumber lane roundabout in direction of Norwich have failed. Also at the western side of the roundabout itself. When driving toward great Yarmouth on approach the centre column of the three is illuminated continuously. One of the columns is missing it's cover over the wiring/switching panel too allowing wateringress.
Thank you for contacting us regarding the lighting column. I can confirm that we are aware of the issues at Cucumber Lane Junction. These issues are due to the SOX lighting equipment which is no longer being manufactured. Unfortunately, this has had an impact on maintenance but we are trying to maintain as many units as possible. We do have schemes in the forward programme for replacement lighting along the A47, as well as the A14 and A1, and we have just confirmed the specification for a new LED lantern to be used on the majority of SOX areas which will mimic the SOX lanterns. We are just checking that the current columns are suitable or whether further intervention is required before we look to upgrade.
These LED lanterns have been ordered and we are starting to have them come into stock. we will start to target problem areas to repair outages. Kind Regards Highways England
