Sent to Highways England less than a minute later
The roadworks on the railway line bridge have been completed weeks ago. There have been narrow lanes and average speed checks ever since with cones on each side of this busy road. One camera is now not in use but the others are therefore slowing down the traffic. Why have these roadworks and markings not been removed?
Thank you for contacting Highways England about an average speed check.
I've spoken to our Structures Team who’ve explained that the speed limit of 40mph is traffic management for part of a phased plan of bridge parapet replacement in this area of the network. The parapet currently protected by temporary barrier was found to have corroded to a greater extent earlier than predicted necessitating acceleration of the planned repair works. These works are due to commence early in April 2021, and the temporary protective barrier will remain in place until this time. At this time there will be additional traffic management, but it is envisaged that the repair works will be relatively straightforward.
Kind regards Highways England
