Masses of litter on the M5 from junction 7 to the M6. I'm sure it is the same in many other places. It's a national disgrace.

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2565477.
I haven't been on this journey for over a year but had to travel to Walsall as my dad has been taken seriously ill. I don't think I have ever seen so much rubbish on the sides of the motorway as is there at the moment.

Good luck on getting this sorted. Highways England stopped routine litter picking several years ago. Health and Safety card used every time you complain You often used to see crews litter picking but now they are as rare as hens teeth! The consequences of which is evident to see on every motorway. its all about maximiseing profits now don't you know. Disgraceful!

Thank you for your patience whilst we looked into your report.
Litter picking is a short term, retrospective solution, which would be significantly reduced if litter was not dropped. We are committed to working to address the root cause, which requires changing the behaviour of those who currently feel that it is acceptable to drop litter. We work with anti-litter organisations (such as Keep Britain Tidy), the police, and local authorities to try to tackle these issues at source.
In the short term, our litter picking is carefully planned, along with all of our maintenance, to try to minimise the impact it has on road users, and ensure that it is cost effective to the public. Picks often require traffic management measures, which are both costly and disruptive. To help reduce the need for these measures, we usually combine our litter picks with other maintenance work.
We will be continuing to look for opportunities to schedule picks along the M5, as our schedule of maintenance and safety critical works allow. I am sorry that I’m not able to give you a date for this work at this time. We will be continuing to monitor this situation as part of our routine inspections.

Hahaha. As I stated above the standard copy and paste Highways England response whenever a littering problem is reported. People are waking up to their negligence and are getting rightly angry. We're on your case Highwats England !
