Vague diversion signage

Reported via desktop in the Sign issue category anonymously at 09:34, Thursday 4 March 2021

Sent to Highways England less than a minute later

Had a wonderful late night tour of the deepest recesses of Wilts/ Dorset last night after a 15 hour working day. The diversion ended at a completely closed road near the village of Childe Okeford. Finally I relied on my own sat nav to get back to the A303 at Wincanton. This diversion added one hour to my journey to the West Country, added 47 miles to a 200 mile trip, and used 80 miles of fuel range. I use the A303 on a regular basis as I commute to Heathrow from my home in South Devon. I have in 30 years, never seen such a convoluted, poorly designed and poorly signed diversion. 🤬

  • We live in Monkton Deverill. Hindon Road, the lane outside our house which is directly beside the carriageway, is a small country C road. Yet again, due to night works on the A303 and clearly inadequate diversion signage, it is obvious that through traffic is diverting in both directions off into the Deverills, rather presumably than queue at lights. This has resulted in continuous high-speed traffic throughout the night on a single lane road in an area where such a rat-run should be prevented. Wiltshire C ouncil have promised before to stop this happening.
