Horrendous Amount of Litter All Way Along M69
Reported via desktop in the Litter (NH) category anonymously at 09:41, Mon 5 April 2021

I've never seen so much litter, every verge and the central reservation is packed with litter, its heartbreaking to see. Is there anything that can be done to get it all removed?

Thank you for your patience whilst we looked into your report. Litter picking is a short term, retrospective solution, which would be significantly reduced if litter was not dropped. We are committed to working to address the root cause, which requires changing the behaviour of those who currently feel that it is acceptable to drop litter. We work with anti-litter organisations (such as Keep Britain Tidy), the police, and local authorities to try to tackle these issues at source. In the short term, our litter picking is carefully planned, along with all of our maintenance, to try to minimise the impact it has on road users, and ensure that it is cost effective to the public. Picks often require traffic management measures, which are both costly and disruptive. To help reduce the need for these measures, we usually combine our litter picks with other maintenance work. We will be continuing to look for opportunities to schedule picks along the M69, as our schedule of maintenance and safety critical works allow. I am sorry that I’m not able to give you a date for this work at this time. We will be continuing to monitor this situation as part of our routine inspections.

Shocked to see all this litter, if there is such concern for our planet (that is what we are told by the media) then why is our country covered with it????? There’s obviously no concern whatsoever. The general population do not give a damn. Why no mention in parliament or by the popular media outlets about how disgraceful the roadsides are and it doesn’t get there on it’s own does it. Why not have cameras to catch culprits then get them made examples of by making them clear up vast stretches of motorways plus hefty fines.
