Sequencing of traffic lights malfunction
Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 07:39, Wed 14 April 2021
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2670384.
For the past two days the traffic light sequencing has changed considerably for traffic flowing from A14 EBC onto the Brampton Hut roundabout. The lights are only staying green for a matter of seconds which is only allowing three or four vehicles through onto the roundabout at a time. This is causing heavy traffic buildup. Yesterday at 1630hrs the traffic was queuing dangerously back into Lane 1 of the A14 EBC. Please reset the sequencing of the lights back to what they used to be.

Issue sill present this morning 14/04/21 - sequencing seems to have changed and the green light does not stay on as long as usual. Huge queue this morning causing lane 1 to be blocked. Cannot see why this has been changed as usually flows really well

This was still an issue today. And now seems to be a matter of safety. An ambulance was almost unable to get through the traffic created by the new timing of the traffic lights. This happened at 5pm.

Lights are green for only about 10 seconds causing huge tailbacks on to the A14 which is incredibly dangerous. I am surprised the issue hasn’t been address already considering former comments. Suggest urgent resolution to avoid accidents.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE sort the lights out!! The traffic is horrendous - I've now resorted to bypassing the junction and coming into Huntingdon via Godmanchester - it may add 20 minutes to my journey but it is better than sitting in static traffic.

Coming from spaldwick the traffic was nearly backed down to the A14. Sort the lights out or provide a flyover

The traffic light sequencing is horrendous. For the last three mornings the traffic has been backed up from the roundabout onto lane 1 of the eastbound carriageway. The traffic is backed up to at least the half a mile notification sign. Something needs to be done asap before there is a crash on the A14 with traffic queuing for the exit and traffic trying to continue along the road. Just to clarify it's not just in the morning it's all day that there is a problem. The traffic lights only let through 2 or 3 vehicles (depending upon size). This needs URGENT attention.

Please could you let me know if the light sequence is to stay, I think I've found a perfect spot for a burger bar, I'd make a fortune from all those people waiting.

So I am now driving through the villages of Ellington and Grafham again to avoid this nonsense. Queing at these lights at Bramton Hut adds 10 or 15 minutes to my journey. Coming off the A14 at Brampton Hut on green I counted 3 cars through the light, then 2 with it already on amber. Then we all sat waiting on red for 20 plus cars and no traffic at all the other way. Madness.

This needs sorting ASAP. Absolute joke that it's been left this long without fixing. Cars are queuing on the live lane of the A14 EBC during busy times which has caused a couple of near misses. People are now jumping the lights on the roundabout so they don't have to wait a long time.

This new sequuencing of the lights is ridiculous.what used to be a fairly free flowing set of lights was backed right up to the next roundabout (the one for Woolley) when i cametgrough around 4pm.another example of somebody in an office somewhere having a bright idea that doesnt work. Please put it back to how it was before.

First, no flyover going east or west on the A14 from the northbound A1 creating the bottleneck. And now, worsening the bottleneck by ridiculously shortening the light sequence on the roundabout! Sort yourselves!

Now 5 days after you stupidly changed the sequence! Please change it back!

The sequencing on these lights is a joke. The lights for people coming from the A14 are green for 5 seconds. If a lorry is at the front of the line its the only vehicle to get through. The tail back goes onto the A14 which cannot be safe. Maybe you could fix this?

Total incompetence 10 seconds green 45 seconds red. Who is responsible for this shambles? Not to mention the amount of litter on the roundabout. It has not been good since it was reduced from 3 lanes to 2 after the A14 upgrade.

Thank you for contacting Highways England about the light sequencing at the A14 Brampton Hut Roundabout.
We are aware of this issue raised and we have asked Telent who manage this on our behalf to investigate as we have had an issue at the junction before with one of the PROMM’s losing data.
Thank you again for your report and rest assured this issue is in hand.
Kind regards Highways England
State changed to: No further action
