New signage installed
Reported via desktop in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 09:57, Wed 14 April 2021
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2670631.
A new road sign has been installed on the west bound side of the A303. This sign is exactly to where we need to look whilst pulling out from the byway to turn right or cross to our field the other side of the road. There are two laying hen sheds as well as the fields so this entrance is regularly used by cars, feed and egg lorries as well as tractors. We have already been involved in a horrific collision at this junction prior to the sign going up and this further hazard does not help safe use with slow moving vehicles.

Thank you for contacting Highways England. concerning the new sign on the A303.
The sign that has been installed is a ‘Dual Carriageway Ahead’ sign and is in place to advise motorists of the upcoming change in road layout and its location is defined by standards.
The positioning of the sign was carefully considered and involved assessments of both the visibility from the access in question as well as the layby to the west. It was also critical to not locate the sign too far away from the road as this may result in it being overlooked by motorists.
We appreciate the position of this sign will have reduced the visibility but be assured that the available visibility is appropriate to the access and type of road it is joining.
