Lane markings

Reported via mobile in the Road markings category anonymously at 12:37, Thursday 22 April 2021

Sent to Highways England less than a minute later

The new updated lane markings have had the opposite effect of easing congestion. If you want to go towards Bristol via A369 you have to share the lane with traffic going into the services. The two lanes next to you are now for M5 south and sit almost empty. Traffic now backs up from M5 north, portishead and from the docks. The lanes in my option should be separated to allow the traffic to flow as follows: Gordano services only lane, A369 Bristol and M5 south lane, then the final lane M5 south and portishead. This is a poorly thought out design causing more congestion than ever before and I believe it will cause accidents when people use the M5 lane then cut infront of traffic who are using the new service and A369 shared lane.

  • Thank you for contacting Highways England. concerning the roundabout at junction 19 of the M5.

The work we carried out was in accordance with what was agreed with North Somerset Council and we’re confident it works with the A369 approach from Bristol. However, the roundabout will now go through a Road Safety Audit process to ensure that it’s safe and fit for purpose.

Our part of the improvement scheme included the roundabout itself and the south bound exit slip road. The road markings on the A369, and the roundabout itself now that the works are complete, are the responsibility of North Somerset Council.

Under the General Data Protection Regulations, we’re unable to pass on your concerns to the council for you, without your permission.
