Road works impact

Reported via desktop in the Roadworks category anonymously at 20:00, Wednesday 5 May 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later

Roadworks have been placed on this section of road reducing the roads down to single lane in both directions. This knock on impact is amazing, it took are son over one and a half hours to travel on a bus to to school in Norwich this is using the A1242 Great Yarmouth Rd in Norwich. Leaving Blofield at 0720hrs arriving Norwich central at 0900hrs as traffic tried to avoid the roadworks. This evening i traveled down the A47 Norwich bound from Brundall at 1620hrs and it took 45 minutes to travel seven miles. This cleary not practical or safe.

  • Thank you for contacting Highways England regarding the works on the A47.

The lane closures are required so we can install cross over points and remove the current safety barrier in preparation of the upcoming works. This is to allow traffic to drive over the central reservation when we move into the two-way contraflow phase of the scheme. We are required to leave the lane closures on 24 hours a day for safety reasons and this will continue until Sunday 23 May.

I would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused due to the lane closures on the A47. We sent out a stakeholder email detailing the closure on the 14 April but there was a failing on our part as advanced warning signs should have been installed to inform the public of the lane closures. Once again I apologise for this and any delay added to your journey.

    Kind Regards Highways England
