A47 Norwich Southern Bypass

What kind of idiot would close a lane each side of the Norwich southern bypass for so long and so far, causing delays and misery, and costing millions in lost productivity? Don't cite health and safety - you could always take a more proactive approach (i.e. doing the work overnight). I have only seen a couple of diggers and a handful of workers there at any one time. Shameful.
Thank you for contacting Highways England regarding the works on the A47.
The first week of lane closures our work included deep excavations of the central reservation and the safest way to do this is during the day. We are also carrying out the removal of safety barriers and this requires closures for 24 hours a day for safety reasons and this will continue until Sunday 23 May. To remove and reset the entire road works each day would take a long time which would delay the project.
Lane closures are required so we can install cross over points and remove the current safety barrier in preparation of the upcoming works. This is to allow traffic to drive over the central reservation when we move into the two-way contraflow phase of the scheme.
I hope this helps to answer your report.
Kind Regards Highways England
