Drivers regularly performing danger U turn after railings

Reported via desktop in the Road markings category anonymously at 22:12, Monday 24 May 2021

Sent to Highways England less than a minute later

The railings should be extended the entire way down to the Crusader island. There are railings all the way to the Green Lane roundabout so why can't this be done? There will be an accident very soon with the drivers coming out of MC Donalds turning round. I have seen 3 near misses in the last 3 months. It will not be the fault of the northbound driver.

  • Dear Mr Crane

Thank you for your enquiry regarding Crusader Island. I’ve reviewed the PIC data and we don’t have any recorded injury collisions at this location in the last 5yrs of PIC data

The section of road between the Crusader Roundabout and Green Lane Junction is not constructed with a kerbed median for its full length, we are not able to install pedestrian barrier without there being a kerbed median strip. Any kerbed median would need to be of a sufficient width to adequate width to accommodate railings while also providing the required offsets to adjacent traffic lanes.
