  • I hit this at 70mph today and I can honestly say it was the worse pothole incident of my 50 years driving. It is long and deep and wrenched my steering wheel violently. It has been reported here several times and it is an accident waiting to happen. Shame on Highways England if they do not address this urgently.

  • The shock of hitting this set off my dashcam as it thought there had been a collision. Clearly been patched before but needs to filled in properly.

  • Thank you for contacting Highways England about A1 road surface.

We are aware of this and repair works are planned. Our inspector continues to monitor on his safety patrols and arranges to have any repairs carried out on a ad-hoc basis.

We will provide a further update to confirm when the work has been completed.

    Kind regards Highways England
