A556 closure diversion

Reported via desktop in the Sign issue category anonymously at 10:31, Saturday 5 June 2021

Sent to Highways England less than a minute later

The A556 closure diversion signage is absolutely hopeless, i.e. non-existent / not visible in the dark. I was travelling from Manchester to Birmingham, couldn't use the A556 and tried to get on to the M6S at M556 J9. You can't. It only goes to M6N. If you knew to come off the M56W-M6N slip road to get to the A50 roundabout it would be fine, but I didn't and didn't even know I was going north until I hit the M6N lane closure delay and had to queue to get through that. I finally managed to turn round and then had to queue through the same lane closure delay on the M6S.

3 1/2 hours for a 90 mile journey. A couple of yellow signs could have transformed it.

  • M56 just before junction 9 coming out of Manchester towards Runcorn there's a love lamb in the middle of the motorway
