Poor consideration for cyclists and pedestrians in Abingdon
Reported via desktop in the Pavement/footpath issue (NH) category anonymously at 16:20, Mon 21 June 2021
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2808250.
If walking or cycling from Marcham to Tesco, visibility is impaired on the slip road to roundabout causing a great danger to those attempting to cross, as does the pavement on Tesco side with low overhanging trees and overgrown path. pushing users into oncoming and fast traffic. Very few drivers adhere to speed limits in this area and surrounding lead road in Abingdon.

There seems to have been a temporary hair cut on the slip road from Newbury to the Marcham roundabout which will soon overgrow. They seem only o have cut the grass verge and although better will not last long. Heavy pruning of the hedgerow and trees may be an answer? The path on the other side of the roundabout walking or cycling to the Tesco bus stop is still overgrown with overhanging branches which after rainfall make it very difficult to pass. Facing the oncoming traffic here is very concerning when the pavement is uneven and narrow.

The bushes overhanging the slip road are now growing so the temporary measure is now becoming ineffective. The path on the Tesco side has never been attended to. At some points less than a metre wide and when it rains the trees hang below head level. The lay by on Marcham side virtually obliterates the footpath.

Now glass all over pavement opposite Shippon turn off and weeds overgrown. This is quite a busy walk/ cycle path from Marcham to Fairacres shopping area and in wet weather is a difficult journey as trees hang low too.
