No speed sign on joining M23 Gatwick Spur Road from South Terminal London Gatwick Airport
Reported via mobile in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 11:44, Sun 18 July 2021
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2872549.
There appears to be no speed limit sign in place to advise drivers of the maximum speed allowed on the Spur Road towards the M23 when joining from the roundabout at the South Terminal Gatwick Airport.
This appears to be the case since the average speed cameras were removed from the Spur Road and from when the speed limit on the Spur Road was set at 40 mph whilst works were taking place.
Coming back from the M23 towards the South Terminal '50' signs are clearly in place.

It's the entrance to a motorway. Unless that portion of the motorway has a restriction on it, the speed limit is the national speed limit for the class of road and no speed limit sign is required.

Ok, but I feel there is still an air on confusion for drivers in that when joining the roundabout from the South Terminal (Ring Road South), there are 50 signs in place, so this would prompt drivers to think that the speed limit on the road is 50 MPH, and my understanding is that a dual carriageway is 70 MPH, so as to eliminate any doubt would it not make sense to put signs in place to dictate what the speed limit is on the M23 Spur Road and if not place a reminder sign along the carriageway before reaching the M23 to prompt/remind drivers what the speed limit is on the spur road.
