Sent to Highways England less than a minute later

Whilst stuck in traffic on the 17th July between junctions 28-31 on the M6 Northbound, I witnessed a highway maintenance vehicle throwing bottles and card from their passenger side window onto the verge. Their number plate was KS16 XGW

Updates

  • Thank you for reporting the driver of a Highways Maintenance vehicle throwing litter on our network. Littering is antisocial, unsightly and a risk to the environment. It also puts our workers at risk and diverts time and money that could be better spent on improving the network. The vehicle with VRN KS16 XGW is not a Highways England vehicle. There are many vehicles that may appear to belong to us. Contractors working on any roads must by law, display 'Highways Maintenance' and coloured chevrons on the rear of their vehicles. This means there are many thousands of vehicles out there with these signs on them. A very small percentage of which belongs to Highways England contractors. We are not a law enforcement agency so we are very limited in the actions we can take. If you have dashcam evidence you may wish to report this matter to the police or Lancashire County Council.

    Kind regards

    Highways England
