Coming of the m5 motorway to join the a38,

Since the roundabout being changed. It’s dangerous, almost had someone drive into me as they were driving as if the lanes where the old style. You need to make the 1st lane fir the m5 services only, middle lane for a358. The traffic is now queuing on the m5 motorway because of the new layout on the roundabout which doestn work. You need to change it back to as it was, because it worked. Will you take notice when someone gets killed ??? Which they will

  • Dear resident,

The improvements to the motorway junction have been delivered by the highways agency and not the local council. You perhaps had an isolated bad experience because in general the roundabout has been modified to operate in the same way as almost ALL other roundabouts, rather than the unorthodox previous layout which DID cause accidents when non-locals assumed lanes.

    But thanks for your contribution.

  • We appreciate you taking the time to bring your concerns to our attention.

The roundabout scheme has been developed, with the input of North Somerset Council (NSC), in order to reduce queueing on the M5 and increase capacity on the roundabout. As with all highways schemes, we carried out a Road Safety Audit. This process looks at the scheme at every stage, up to road opening. A mixed Highways England and NSC team, along with a police advisor, carried out the safety audit. They will have made any necessary recommendations to the scheme design team to consider and potentially implement if they’re considered appropriate and within the scope of the project.

We're now looking to make some changes in August 2021, barring any unforeseen delays.

    Kind regards

    Highways England
