40 limit in place as acknowledged by HE for safety reassons but works not scheduled until March 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2887239.
This stretch of road has an extensive 40mph limit in place which is not observed by the majority of users and feels dangerous to those following it surrounded by higher speed vehicles.
Highways England have acknowledged the reason for the limit is '... there is the centre reservation barrier is in need of replacement and the limit is there for safety of the public. We have this work scheduled to take place in March 2022.'
Putting in a limit has created a new, potentially higher risk safety issue impacting the public and it is unreasonable to allow this situation to continue until March 2022.
As Highways England sre already operating on this stretch undertaking resurfacing works, the barrier replacement should be considered at the same time.

Thank you for contacting Highways England about the 40mph speed limit on the A1307 from Godmanchester leading up to the train station in Huntingdon.
We appreciate your concerns about the speed limit and the poor driver behaviour you’ve identified as a result. Please be assured that we are delivering the scheme as soon as possible.
We identified that, for safety reasons, the barriers in the central reservation and either side of the carriageway needed upgrading when we undertook surveys as part of the A14 major project work.
Part of the problem appears to be due to ground movement on the embankment, so finding the best solution is more complicated than it might appear. We started the design process to identify the most effective solution in January. This required further studies and surveys to be programmed and resourced which helps explain why the barriers will not be replaced until spring next year. Once this is done the speed limit will return to 70mph.
We were therefore unable to replace the barriers at the same time as undertaking the resurfacing works.
Thank you again for your report.
Kind Regards
Highways England
