Traffic light timings are wrong & roads markings/signage not clear
Reported via mobile in the Traffic lights category anonymously at 06:27, Sunday 25 July 2021
Sent to Highways England less than a minute later
Traffic light timing on the junction from Brampton towards Huntingdon have been changed & now takes well over 2 mins to turn green, traffic builds up when its totally unnecessary. The lanes have also recently changed, which are now NOT clear. Left lane for A1 only with middle lane the only one to use if going straight over towards Huntingdon. I use this road daily and EVERY time I am there I am involved in a near miss & stuck for ages because of the bad timing on the traffic lights! Thanks
The light timings are totally wrong, waited for lights to change for nearly 5 minutes and nothing was coming around at all. New layout is terrible. Someone will get seriously hurt.

Thank you for contacting Highways England regarding Spittals roundabout.
The changes we’re making at the junction are a result of a design to make sure the correct destination signs are in place for the A1307 and A141. In order to manage the traffic, rather than closing the junction completely, we’ve done the work in phases around the roundabout. The road marking layout on the eastbound approach to Spittals is the last phase which is due to be finished early this week. Also, once all our changes are complete, a road safety audit will be done to highlight if there are any safety concerns which need addressing.
Lane 1 is now a dedicated left hand filter lane, solely intended for drivers wishing to exit Spittals roundabout and head northbound along the A1307 towards the A1M. Lanes 2 and 3 are for drivers continuing to travel on the A141 eastbound, or exiting Spittals roundabout to head southbound along the A1307.
As with any changes to the road layout on our SRN, we have installed temporary signs on the approach to Spittals roundabout, advising that the road layout has changed. As a temporary solution, we’ve also masked off the incorrect information on the approaching signs while replacement signs are being obtained. This ensures that the information on the signs matches the road markings on the approach to the roundabout, which should make it clear for approaching drivers which lane to take for their journey.
We apologise if these temporary measures have caused some confusion and not been very clear. We’re finishing the work by installing lane markings on the roundabout early this week and the straight ahead arrow in the inside lane will be hydro-blasted.
We have also recently discovered an issue on the controller that runs the traffic signals and resolved this yesterday. We hope this has improved the traffic light issue at the roundabout.
Thank you again for contacting us
Kind Regards Highways England
