Safety concern - lorries released into oncoming traffic

Reported via desktop in the Roadworks category anonymously at 13:36, Tuesday 27 July 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later

On a number of occasions when travelling south between junction 79 and 77 on the A1 I have witnessed unsafe release of construction lorries into motorway traffic.

On all occasions, road users have had to take emergency evasive action to avoid colliding with the lorries.

Today at approximately 12:50pm I again witnessed a lorry being released into busy traffic on the southbound motorway between junction 78 and 77 causing 4 cars, including myself, to take evasive action and resorting to an emergency stop in the middle of busy traffic.

Obviously, these lorries must be able to travel to and from the work site but they should be escorted etc. to ensure they are not pulling out into traffic in an unsafe manner.

Please review your process for releasing slow moving lorries into the flow of traffic as the current approach appears to be extremely unsafe.
