  • Thank you for contacting Highways England concerning the A303 Bishopswood junction.

We sorry to hear of your concerns about safety at this junction.

There is no formal ban of the right turn out of the Bishopswood road at present, which is why there’s no sign currently in place advising against this

To put up a sign to ban the right turn, we need to go through a legal process to make a traffic regulation order banning the turn. When considering where to make improvements to our roads, we take collision data in the last 5 years into account so we can prioritise the areas of greatest need.

Based on the collision data for this location there have been no recorded injury collisions therefore we would not look to install a sign at this time.

We will continue to monitor this location, as we do with the rest of our network. If this junction does become a safety issue then we will look at it again.

We hope this helps with your enquiry. If you require any further information please contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000 or, or visit our website at

    Kind regards

    Highways England
