Sent to Highways England less than a minute later
The bridge shut tonight but there were no signs to make us aware and I am now stuck on the north side of Lowestoft. It is unclear whether there are buses put on and there are no taxis available. What should have been a 15 minute walk home has ended up in maybe at least an hour walk. It is not acceptable. I walked over the bridge at 7 pm. this evening. There was no warning it would shut. Why is there not information for pedestrians or a pedestrian footbridge?

I am sorry to hear of the inconvenience caused due to the closure of Bascule Bridge. I have spoken with our Senior Engineer who has informed me that advanced works notice signs were installed a week prior to the start of the works.
There is also complimentary bus services each side of the bridge when closed for pedestrians.
