Heavily worn out road markings
Reported via mobile in the Road markings (NH) category anonymously at 19:32, Thu 12 August 2021
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2932182.
Came to report clearly warn out markers on this roundabout, but have noticed that somebody else has already reported them. Ok. Can you please explain that if " our inspector doesn’t feel that the road markings aren't causing any safety concerns at this time and remedial work isn’t required. We're aware they're faded but faded lane lines are not a safety critical issue." Why do the highways agency have to put up a big red sign on the entry to the roundabout warning "no road markings on roundabout" and this has been there for over 18 months now. There CLEARLY is a safety concern with the road markings on this roundabout, so much so that you have to warn people about the ridiculous state this roundabout is in. Surely you cannot leave them in this state? It really is so dangerous, especially at night, and especially considering the street lights do not even work on the worst effected areas.

Thank you for your patience whilst we looked into your report. We were due to start our work on Monday 9 August at M42 junction 10 roundabout. This was to resurface and replenish the road markings in the area. Unfortunately, due to safety reasons we’ve made the decision to temporarily suspend this work. By doing this, it will provide us with an opportunity to relook at the design of our work at this location, including our required traffic management. We need to ensure that we deliver the work safely, whilst protecting both the road user and workforce on site.
We hope to accelerate alternative planned work at this location, and revisit the work at M42 junction 10 roundabout towards the end of our programme.
A weekly traffic management bulletin will be issued to customers including closures and diversions as the work progresses. If you’d like to receive these updates, please subscribe to our mailing list by emailing noreplyA5WMids@highwaysengland.co.uk.

A421 exit at Kempston South, roundabout
It’s a badly designed layout, which is why when it fades, everyone’s drives in any lane.
