Left hand filter lane not clearly marked
Reported via desktop in the Road markings category anonymously at 21:45, Sunday 5 September 2021
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later
I had someone in the left hand lane try to drive ahead directly into my car instead of filtering towards the A1. This is dangerous and could have easily been a collision.
Mark the left lane off with a solid white line before a HGV drives over a cyclist or a small car and kills someone.
Thank you for contacting our Customer Contact Centre regarding the road markings at Spittals Interchange on A141.
I appreciate you taking the time to report this.
There has recently been a scheme on the A141 towards Spittals Interchange with new road markings and signage. The signage shows which lane you should be in towards the roundabout and there is a solid white line showing that you should turn left in the left-hand lane.
One of our local inspectors has visited this location and believes the road markings and signage clearly shows you should turn left in the left-hand lane. Unfortunately, we cannot control driver behaviour but recommend that you report any dangerous driving you witness to your local police.
Thank you again for contacting us, I hope you find my response helpful.
Kind regards National Highways
