A1M North Bound either side of Scotch Corner

Reported via desktop in the Sign issue category anonymously at 09:14, Thursday 9 September 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later

Travelling North towards Scotch Corner (which your daft computer system is unable to recognise) there is a stray road side 50mph limit serving no purpose. There is another random 50mph road side limit north bound after Scotch Corner serving no reason. North bound after Scotch Corner at about 13.30 on08/09/21 three of the central reservation pillar like signs were flashing 60mph for no reason! No wonder drivers get into the habit of ignoring speed limits on motorways knowing that gantry signs are wrong or 'failed to be cancelled' anything up to 50% of the time ..... in the same way that every driver knows that 5 gantry signs will be flashing a speed limit before you reach the problem ... assuming it is still there by the time you reach it!!

  • Thank you for your patience whilst we investigated this issue for you.

The temporary speed restriction at junction 53 was in place for customer and worker safety whilst investigation works were being carried out. There was a report of an LGV swerving over the carriageway and crashing into the central reservation. As this was a third party report signs are set junction to junction to warn traffic that something might be happening ahead. In this location there are only central reservation wickets with no variable message signs attached so drivers will only get speed limits displaying.
