Litter along the highway

Reported via mobile in the Litter category anonymously at 09:31, Tuesday 14 September 2021

Sent to Highways England less than a minute later

Terrible litter issue from Dereham to Swaffham, lay-bys full of litter, verges full of litter. It’s a terrible ongoing issue and I am always out in the community conducting litter picks, this is without saying something I can’t do myself due to safety.

  • Thank you for contacting Highways England.

We, Highways England, are not responsible for picking litter on the A47. Under the Environmental Protection Act 1991, Norfolk Council are the responsible authority.

To help, we’re working with them to ensure litter picking is better co-ordinated with other routine maintenance work on our road network. By doing so, we aim to minimise disruption to those using our roads, reduce costs and importantly, ensure safety standards for those picking the litter are met.

    Kind Regards Highways England

State changed to: not the council's responsibility
